They are also expected to make .restaurant/.travel and such available over time.

Imagine you are nike or something like that, all the stupid domains you now have to buy, to preserve your corporate branding.

Domain names are pretty pointless these days. It's very rare I ever type one in as Google does the work for me. Even if I know the domain name I will type it into Google because it's quicker and if the site isn't near the top of Google then I probably don't want to visit it anyway.
