  Bus w**ker
They take a measurement of the thickness of the paint, which can help to avoid strike through on thinner paint etc. More for rotary users TBH.

  PH1 iceburg
It measure the depth of the paint so you know how much you can safely cut the paint back with a machine polisher.

Completely un related,

Surely machine polishing remove laquer or clearcoat or whatever its called. So how do you know how much laquer there is before you reach paint?

As I assume this measurses the two combined?

AFAIK they have a setting to measure only the lacquer depth.

what u put infront of me
to have a reading like that i would say that panel has seen some paint after the manufactoring stage, you should see about 110 to 130

do these still work as well on the vee? with most of it being fiberglass and all that... wondered if it would confuse it with no metal to bounce off

Yep, only the bonnet, boot and roof on the vee. Atleast it gives me a rough idea. Still a worth while tool to have!

  Skoda Fabia vRS
sorry but i find that reading very hard to believe to be accurate

ive never seen a Renault with paint over 200, ever !

what reading do your door aperatures give ?..............and what about the Mito roof as a comparison ?

The bonnet and boot are giving around 130 m, which are the areas i have tackled already. I havent tried it on the mito yet

Seems a little but high, even after 6 resprays mine is around the 160micron's mark...

im thinking the roof has seen some paint then, even using menz pwergloss your not gonna remove 100+ microns

yup, 230 is certainly better than 130, i was just shocked at the reading from Renault paint

mines 200+ all over the car :) but thats VAG for you :)
