Looking for a sparkplug change guide

Hi guys,

First post for me actually, new member from NZ with a 182. Looking for a guide for changing the plugs. Bit of a novice with mechanical minded stuff. Did an oil change on my car yesterday, took a while but all went well. Hoping I might be able to do the plugs also if I can find a good guide. Did a search, but couldnt find anything.

^that guide is nearly there, don't waste your time unbolting the coil pack, just unplug the HT leads

leave the MAP sensor and air temp sensor in the plenum, just unclip the wires (easy to snap those sensors when pulling them out of their holes)

Perfect guys, thanks. I did a search- twice actually but must have missed it :S

Can I reuse the intake manifold bolts/gasket, or are they a stretch bolt that need to be replaced ?

you can do, but for the price of them it makes sense to just buy a new one. Make sure you don't mix up the order the HT leads go back btw, and make sure the plenum seals properly. Enjoy Oh and make sure you use platinum NGK plugs.

yeah you can reuse them (you're not supposed to, but everyone does)

bolts are to be NIPPED, don't torque them, there's no need and you'll probably rip the thread out on the manifold if you try

Make sure you don't mix up the order the HT leads go back

they're numbered on the leads and on the coil pack

Did the wife's last week. Very straight forward. Like Fred says just unplug the sensors.

I ordered a new gasket but never had it at the time so quick job for next week.

I've just replaced the ordinary plugs with Densa iridium power ones on a 1.6 VVT. A couple of points then.
1. The coils are secured by wee bolts. Do not over tighten these.2. Ensure the plugs seatings in the engine
are clean, free of oil. 3. do not over tighten the plugs when refitting.
Finally if you want to save on fuel, the DENSA plugs are an excellent investment, even though costly.

good point on the coil pack (if you end up taking it off) the threads seem pretty delicate

torque wrench for the plugs, see to many of them blowing plugs out the head and taking all the threads with them!
