looking to buy

Hi there...

Im a 17 year old... looking to buy a good used car for around 10k.
just wondering what you guys suggest, not wanting to spend the whole amount on the car, would like to buy some mods, and im looking for a car that doesnt burn holes in the wallet in terms of insurance...any suggestions would be great!

10k is a fairly heafty sum to spend on a car at 17. If you dont want a car which will be very heavy on insurance at 17 your looking at 1.4 and under really. Might be a waste to splash that sort of cash on a car now.
I see you already have a car so you could always hold out till your 18/19 and get a 1.6/1.8 which would fill the budget nicely.

But if you feel you can stretch the insurance what about an MGZR (1.4) or a VTR if your able to get insured.

10k lol
such a wide variety
1.4 Dynamique from showroom so you have the warranty
nothing too fast, just a nc builder:)

Pointless getting a 1.4 as is no quicker than the 1.2, yet will have higher insurance/ cost more to run.

Id get a new/ nearly new smart or similar with warranty mate.

Yeah the all-important NCB is what you need. Remember to tell your insurance about any mods, otherwise you might as well not have it etc etc (sorry, someone had to say it - your choice of course)

Pointless spunking £10k on a new 1.2 or something, he's going to be bored of it within a year and then his original £10k will be £7k after depreciation.

Spent £3k on a mint black 1.2 Dynamique, and stick the rest of the cash in an ISA/ Savings account.
Sell the Dynamique after a year, if you buy wisely you will get back what you paid for it (I did) then you will be 18 with 1yrs NCB so in a much better position to get something decent.

£10k is a lot of money to spend on a first car! Wouldn't bother spending more than £2k - save the rest of the money and buy something nice when you've got some experience behind the wheel.

i'd say go with that too - not what you want to hear but it's mighty sensible. what are your parents suggesting?

I'd definately agree with those advocating not blowing 10K on a car at 17 as you will definately get bored of it.

I bought brand new when i was 17 and because of insurance you can only get something slow, and while its great having a brand new car, after a year that novelty has worn off and you want something quicker.

I reckon ISA is the way forward and grab a bargain to do you mean time.
Then you drive like a granny to make sure you get a no claims bonus.
Plus, at 17 mistakes will be made and scuffing the alloy/paint on a 10K car is a much bigger kick in the face!
