losing power with mileage

  Titanium 182

do clio 16vs get slower as they get older, as my mates just doesnt feel fast/powerful at all, and for some reason my vtr was faster than it :(

when i got my 16v it felt under powerd also :(?

does this happen?

his has doen 106k

mines done 100

well me mates got a vtr with 23k on it and my valver has 130k and he can only jus keep my car in sight down most roads, to be honest not knockin vtrs cause i do like them but if its faster than the 16v then theres sumut definatly wrong with the clio.

  Titanium 182

my thought exactly i love my vtr, but it aint fast, and i wouldnt even dare have a crack at a valver apart from this was my mate, the timing belt on my valver was a little loose, but thats getting sorted at the min, if u have read my other post lol

if the car has never been de-coked then maybe thats the problem

start running the cars on Optimax and stick some Nitrox Hot Shot in with it aswell

also make sure your filter is clean and that your fuel filter isnt an old clogged one........

basically make sure your car is runnin right, plugs etc.......service it

Brun, what is decoked? :)

iv had mine servied/ cleaned the kn filter that was on but i have a new one to go on :)

how much is a fuel filter? where abouts is it on that car? :)

cheers, i didnt think they got that much slower when older, i thought it was strange for a valver not to feel a little bit fast

if you dont know where it is chances are it needs changing, have a look under your car near the back sides, its about the size of a coke can

chuck some good fuel system treatment in the fuel tank an run that through, like Nitrox Hot Shot.........

then get some carb cleaner and keep the revs at about 3k and spray that directly into the air intake, in bursts......

  Titanium 182

carbs?

isnt the valver injection :(

so what is de coking?

or is that it spraying cleaner into the air intake iv already used red x but havent had chance to feel the power of my 16v yet but his feel well slow tbh

  Skoda Fabia vRS

yes it is injection, however you can spray carb cleaner into the air intake (take the filter off) to clean the inside of the engine, carb cleaner is just 10K Boost but a lot cheaper....

de-coking means gettin rid of all the carbon deposits that have built up over time

personally i think Redex is over rated..........id use Nitrox Hot Shot....

The more miles, the more run in the engine. As long as its been looked after and maintained well it should be flying over 100k.

MIne has done standard 113k and is still flying, acheived a 0-60 7.3 at donny south. Another 16v there couldnt get below 7.9s.

Also at 107k, the engine achieved 141bhp, pretty good (with decat only).

I would say that your mates engine needs a bit of a tune up.

With all due respect to the VTR as a car, the 16V is in a different league. If a standard VTR is catching a Valver then theres something wrong. As standard, a 16V does 0-60 in the mid 7s and 0-100 in just over 20 secs. Obviousy some are quicker and some are slower.

Its not uncommon to see Valvers down on power, but most are still capable of their original searing performance and more. Almost all the quickest Valvers and Willys on Cliosport are well past 100k miles. Mines on 103k and is definitely one of the quicker ones (with the aid of an engine rebuild).

Just a little basic maintenance keeps these beasts beating forever, but a little neglect will see them turn ill in no time.

Right lads thanks, you have put some confidence back in me that, i am going to have some fun when my valver is finished, even if it was slow id still love her :D

my mates, doesnt have any service history the pratt, and im sure its been clocked, well i know, std air filter is dirty as f**k oil is black all needs a good flush, fuel filter is hanging off :(

my timing was slightly out on my 16v, which could cause a few small probs with in correct running but im having that sorted, and iv had it a full major service and will get the fuel filter changed :)

aaronc, what mods do you have to pull a 7.3 o 2 60?

iv got a full magnex and decat and a kn, but im thinking of ditching the kn for this heat shielded one i bought for my vtr but i will adapt it to fit the clio so i can keep all the hot air away :)

The engine is standard apart from decat pipe. Mileage 113k. Its always been fast out of the box.

so 7.3 with just a decat? so std exhaust and a decat!

hopefully mine will be as fast with the full magnex,

any ideas on the kn?

Dont use a K&N. Will sound nice but will just slow you down.

When i was doing 0-60 it was 29degrees so very hot, and tried both induction and standard airbox. With induction kit i couldnt get below 7.6s, as soon as i changed it to standard i got a 7.3s.

Induction kits on 16v/williams dont work well.

I expect dead 7s maybe even high 6s when its cold, like 3degrees and below.

  Titanium 182

cool

iv got an encolsed one, im going to put that on

i had a feeling the kn was only making things worseyou have a healthy 16v seems very fast for its standard ness :)

  ExigeV6|Q5|DS3|Fiat

Yeah if you have got an encolsed one, that may help. Extra induction pipes from the bumper also help increase airflow. (not that i have them!), sometimes just changin gthe filter element inside the original airbox can help abit more.
