Losing water

  clio sport
Ive got a 1.2 16v y reg sport ! Recently I have been losing water but with no clear leak or loss of power . I have no loss of power so I doubt it's the head gasket . Any suggestions . ? I notice I have the tiniest amount of caramel coloured sludge on my oil cap but which confuses me about it not being the head gasket ! The only thing left is the water pump but it's only been replaced a couple of years ago ?

You need to get under the bonnet/car and look for any visible leaks.

I believe mayo on the oil cap is quite common on the 1.2 16v? Although it can be perfectly innocent on any car, especially at this time of year, or when it isn't used for long periods of time, as condensation can form inside the rocker cover.

Water pump... Run the car until its hot and look behind the drivers wheel. Park over a dry spot of ground and look for any drips. Ive gone through 2 water pumps now the first one though took my timing belt with it and caused me to get a new engine. The second one just collapsed and wouldnt hold any water.

Hi mate.... Have a look at the rad and as your lookin down at it on the passenger side inbetween the bottom rad pipe and the top rad pipe their is a massive screw have a look to see if the leak is comin from there i had the same problem as your self and it took me ages to find it i done mine up tight and no more leak..

Hope this helps.....
