Loss of BHP

Mornin, yawn..... I need some help - my 16v has decided to loose power - i am also strangely not using as much fuel as usual. Im thinking it could be lack of fuel getting to the engine and think it may be a clogged up fuel filter - think its the original and my cars done 94K Have recently replaced the head but it has only recently felt slower - it is not always slower though - only sometimes.

Thoughts? Thanx

Right, a few things that would need checking considering lack of replacement are:

Fuel filter, should be done every 32k. Try some petrol additive like redex, wynns, stp, redline etc to clean out fuel system and injectors.

Check spark plug condition, whilst at it also check dizzy cap and rotor arm (mine were shot to bits on 8 year old car) and replace anything that needs it.

HT leads might also need replacing too. Magnecor are worthwhile and come with 10 year guarantee.

Tried any of that 10k boost stuff through throttle body with engine running.

All these should help keep car in tip top condition and restore some lost power.

Wicked, thats great. Thanks for that - just got to hope this rain clears up so that i can actually work on the blumin thing!!!!!

You wanna check your ecu for a fault code aswell really. I had my head off and a electronic clip had to be discounected and ecu went into protection mode. They only use 2/3rds of the throttle then! Does it feel like the car still wants to go but holding back?

Yeh it does! it gets to 3-4 rpm and slows down in terms of acceleration - still gets to the 6 mark but takes a lot longer to get there - 3rd and 4th are a joke! How do i adjust that ecu thing?

Feels like its needs to cough and go! Take it to a renault specialist with the diagnostic machine and they will reset the fault code which is open circuit as the clip was disconnected and it will be fine. Cost me £50 i think?
