Loud bang!!!!

Right, when taking off fast in 1st, my clio has known, after wheel spinning, to make a loud banging noise, as if its taken off and dropped back down on the tarmac. Is it broken? what causes this? It even makes the cd player jump.

might be a engine mount loose? the bang might come from when u change gear the engine is droppin back in to place?

then again i no nuthing bout engines just my guess m8

worth checking the mounts and the rear dog bone as they are prone to wear... easy to replace

It is probably the dog bone mount (was on mine) only about £10 from renault and only takes about 10 mins to change - only 2 bolts.

The problem with the mounts is they are too flimsy and the large mounting hole stretches and becomes slightly oval. You can see it on the one I removed from my car against the new mount: http://www.mcmillan-uk.com/clio/dogmount.jpgwww.mcmillan-uk.com/clio/dogmount.jpg

would that happen ive wheelspun fast?

Yup, that mount gets pulled and pushed every time you accelerate - if you accelerate hard or wheelspin then there is a lot of force going on it which in time stretches it.

Does your gear lever almost rip your hand off when you change gear, or does it jump out of first when accelerating very hard? Mine did this, but it improved once I fitted a new mount - but that needs changed again.

not sure. I didnt have my hand on it at the time, it just shook a bit but did stay in gear. Sounds like yet another dodgy characteristic of the clio. Ill see if someone at work will try their clio. I though I have bust something by taking 1st gear hard. Them bloody contis are rubbish and make it difficult to get some serious speed up in 1st gear.
