Loud wining... help pls!

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Well to cut a long story short, i jumped on the motorway the other night & the faster i was getting the louder i could hear a wining noise coming from the passenger side, dropped the clutch to see if it was from the engine & nothing changed so i'm assuming its coming from the passenger wheel, now i had my cv gaitor go last christmas & sorted a few days later, since then i've had a knocking noise on full lock but other than that its been fine so my question is can a shot cv joint wine when going in a straight line? if not i'm assuming its the wheel bearing? if so what sort of damage to my wallet am i rougly looking at??

Thanks,
James

Need to see what exactly it is wheel bearing sounds most likly if so then there not much £25~35 for a new one (a proper one) them say a hour labour to fit it.

i'll have to get it jacked up tomorrow & have a look, i'm guessing this is not a simple process of out with the old & in with the new:( , i'm fairly happy with doing most work on my motor, done my cambelt & general stuff but i'm guessing i'm gonna need a bearing pulling device right?

had the same thing a few weeks back mate you better off getting the bearing, and then taking the hub off yourself, then pop down local garage to get them to press the old one and and put the new back in should cost no more than £20, and i think the bearings are 50 from renault but u can find cheaper

You deffo need a new wheel bearing which is going to be anywhere between £40-80. The nocking noise is your ball joint. Get it fixed! Mine collapsed once and I left gearbox oil all over the road

Ball joints are only about £10 and you could probably do it yourself with a haines manual

Well i've jacked the car up & pulled the drivers side wheel at 6 & 12 o'clock & theres no movement:dapprove: , so i'm gonna have a play with the rear wheel later, should there be noticeable movement?

Worn CV joint if you have a knock on full lock from one side, check that side put it on full lock hold the driveshaft with your hand and rock the wheel and see how much movement in the joint.
