Lowering 172

I am thinking about lowering my 172, and was wondering what springs you guys use/recomend and the cost.

I want to improve the handling without the loss of too much comfort or rubbing or making the cd jump!! Will a 40mm drop give me what I want??? Ive got 16" alloys.

Help please :)

A 40mm drop is a bit too low for the MK2 172 IMO. Great on smooth roads but tend to bottom out at the front on the fast B roads. Also the front wheels rub the liners on full lock. Looks good though. I recently dicthed my AVOs for Eibach Pros (using standard 16" rims). Handling is improved but next to no drop. I reckon -30mm is about the max drop for this car.

So Eibach it is then...what about the torrison(?) bar at the back, do they just lower the existing one or what, how does it work???

Does anyone have any pics of a 172 lowered by 30mm??

Ive got -40mm drop on Apex, doesnt rub on full lock:confused:, is a bit harsh on bumpy roads, but superb on smooth and looks the biz, is a bit of a comparimise though.

hi mate no torsion bar at the back mate springs alround..i think???? i too am looking for springs and want to lower 35mm front an 30 mm back or get some h&r springs which is 25mm f 15mm r but where do i get these from...adtmits do you know mate??

Any pics??? Also what did you do about lowering the back end?? I dont know how the torsion bar works, if it can be lowered or do I need to replace it?

I Dont want to appear like a dumb blonde when I go get it done!:)

No pics at the moment, VivJ, keep meaning to borrow a camera.(Will try and sort this on Tues on my day off) The back end has two springs on the same as a the front. As CUPPY says they are springs alround, so no torsion bar to mess with, this was the design on older clios such as 16v and williams. Makes it much easier and the springs can fitted at your local garage for approx £45. It is really easy.

CUPPY FYI: H+R Springs are available form carnouisser. Not listed in the catalogue, but im sure theyll be able to get them. Id guess at arounf £110 judging by other applications with 4 springs. If you wait, when I collect the spoiler I let you have a go in mine so you can see what the -40mm drop is like. IMHO it isnt too much compromise for the looks & still handles sweet and isnt too rough a ride.

Its 30mm if you believe Eibach. I would worry less about the drop and more about what you want to achieve. If youre after the sexy slammed look like Jillys then go for 40mm. If its just to improve the handling and a smaller drop then Eibachs are the way to go.
