lowering and shocks - what to do

ive finally decided how low i want to go. This is 40mm at the front, down 50mm at the rear. btw this is a 1.2, mk1, ph3 clio. on 195/45/R15" rimz.
I just need to know what will happen if i leave standard shocks on. i know it will reduce their life, but what will the ride be like? and is there any sort of danger? i.e. in a way where the stiffness between the shocks and springs clash and/or uneven - any danger/side affects?

please let me know
cheers

As is my understanding it will shorten the life of the shocks, but shouldnt hurt too much.

I have same car, and rims, an planning to buy springs and then shocks seperatly as and when i can afford them
