Lowering Petition

  Monaco Blue 172
My friend doesn't believe that I can lower my car and not have any problems with it. So could people who have lowered there car just write what size wheels they have, how much they have lowered their car by and put whether they have problems or not so I can finally win this money. Need 10 or so comments!!!!

  Audi TT 3.2 V6

Renault spent millions on designing the car, so if you modify from standard spec, then things are going to change obviously, if you lower it, it may look better and if that’s what you are after fine, but then the problems might include, harsh road ride, snap out on corners etc etc

If it had to be done Renault would of done, unless your talking about spend £1000s and getting the car set-up right, then your mate is right…

Depends what you mean by problems mate...
Have had a 1.2 16v lowerd 60mm on 17's.
That tramlined, was s**t in town cos of ridiculously hard ride, and made the interior rattle cos it was so firm. over potholes and drains would make a huge bang noise... and u cant get up kerbs.

i once got stuck in traffic with an ambulance trying to pass, everyone went up the kerb but me... embarrasment time!

but looks ace, and handles like a go cart.

if u do it dont get lowering springs, well worth spending out on coilovers.

any more info pm me!

I had mine lowered on Spax now because Spax rear shocks are useless they kept failing so you coudl argue it caused probelms but it was a warently issue I just kept going back to Demon Tweeks like Renault and they did the dirty work.
Mine never cause but the setup was quite hard it was lowered so that arch to wheel was 300mm front and rear which depnding on who you talk to is 60 to 80mm In real life it was 40 at the front and 60 at the back but it was lower than 60mm springs alone got you.

A decient setup like FKs etc should be no problem if correctly installed.

The stock setup has problems though my dampers are worn out at 60k adftermarket stuff would have lasted better I think.

  Megane DCi 147bhp/350nwm
17's on 60mm and its perfect, try stay away from speed bumps at normal speeds though!

  Black/Gold 182!
Lowered mine 60mm, 16inch wheels 195.

No problems at all, had them on over a year now.

  Clio 1.4 16v
I have 17's on at the mo, I would also like to know the lowest safe drop, there is a fair few bumpy roads where I live so would it be safe to go with a 40mm drop??

  Tweaked Leon Cupra R
lowered 75 on FK's on 15"s 195x45's... low as fook. Great fun on the bends.

Fukked ma front splitter, but that wasnt cos ma car was low, it's cos the speedbump was too high!! lol

DO IT!! buy coilys, look mintit.
DSCN1153.jpg

the back is lower now too!

  RenaultSport Clio 172 Mk2
FK Coilovers - Around 70-75mm.

16" Standard Alloys. Tyres - 195/45/16

No rubbing problems whatsoever.

  Chocolate Bar™
just tell him to stop being ghey

mines 80mm on FK's with 15'' wheels and its a billion times better than what renault supplied, but in saying that the 1.2 does start life as a front wheel drive range rover.

thats cack Renault did spend money but on a budget its the likes of Spax and koni etc that ivest the millions in designing the kits, remember Reno have to develop something that is to be mass produced

  172 cup'd extreme
Renault make the car like that for comfort and safety and for the longevity of components such as wheel bearings driveshfts ball joints and track rod ends. lowering the car stresses all these components and eventually they will fail before a non lowered car.
a good example of this is the CUP range of clio's they have meatier front wheel bearings in order to cope with the extra stresses of the hardened and lowered cup suspension.

Kinda agree with you to a certain extent....low. rock hard suspension doesn't necessarily mean good handling.

  Meg on pistonheads £6995
40mm drop on 17s (with a heavy diesel lump)

handling & grip improved, but ride harsh (even tho I love it)

the wife hates it cos the rides firm - perfect! - she's driven it twice in last year and crunch an alloy each time :-(
