lowering subframe without the steering rack. help ....

  gti
im just on lowering the subframe on my 182 to change the box and cant really see how it unbolts from the rack.

anybody got a few pointer? thanks

would it be easir to lift it out the top?

  182
Loads easier imo to come out the top, just lower the passenger side of the subframe enough so you can push the end of the box into the wheel arch.

Remove the clutch then turn it 90 degree towards you so the largest end is facing up and bring it out.

Easier to remove engine and box as me through the top if you can't get car high enough

Can you se th bolts or is it a blind job? The cars in cake stands. Had a look but couldn't see the bolts. I'll have a proper look tommorow in better light

Thanks. Starter motor looks like a t**t to get at. I'll get the box loose. If I can get it out the top I will. If it's a pain I'll drop the frame.

It's a right pig compared to a vts box to change.

they mean engine AND box out the top

starter motor is EASY to get to, 3 x 13mm bolts (sometimes they have 16mm IIRC, depends what was is the parts bin) it stays in place anyway, just unbolt it from the box and slide it back a bit
