Macbook Housekeeping

I've had my Macbook for 2 months now and it's great. However, it seems to be really slow when on the internet over the last couple of days.

Is there any housekeeping I should be performing to ensure it is running at its optimum? e.g. deleting temp files, cookies, etc.
