do the mark 1 172s have side skirts different to standard mark2 phase 1 clio, say a 1.4 16v w reg?

Yes the 1.4 you are talking about doesnt have side skirts (well the 1.2 16v doesnt so presume it is the same)

so cud i be cheeky and go to reno and buy the 172 skirts and put them on?

would they fit and how easy woul this be to do?

Yes or you could ring a few scrappy and see f they have any. Probably more expensive to buy from Renault than it would be to get some aftermarket ones mate.

you could yes.think there just held on by clips or 30 torx screws underneath.
