matched inlets?

  PH1 172 Sport
Improved power and torque curve. Angelworks is the best place to get it done. To get the most out of them you will probably need a remap though. Do a search as I did a small review on them a few months ago with before and after power curves.

Definitely worth it! I could tell the difference it made on the drive home just to the increase of noise the thing made lol!

Very good mod to get done!

  Ph2 172
Could you do this yourself? Put the gaskets against the inlets and mark out. Surely couldn't be that hard if you were careful and had a steady hand?

  172 Cup
Not quite that simple, you could actually make the flow worse. Its the curve rather than the size that is the important part to maximise linear flow.

sound like il be doing this before i get the rs tuner. how does it work with angel works, do you send you head in or wot?

thats wot i ment lol. i just sent my head to be skimmed so kind of an excuse. i did see a group buy a while ago so maybe worth the wait like you say.

thanks for your help people!

They have them in stock ready to go, but you send your old ones in for a discount IIRC.

  RS RIP
It can be a bit of a pain , as i've understood from reading around..

Does'nt one of the enginemounts have to come loose to tilt the engine a little for needed working-space ??
Anyone done them themselvs that can varify ?

  Ph1
Yeah engine mount off so to gain access to the side bolt on the inlet and jack the engine up

Quite daunting tbh if youve never done it before.

You can do it without removing the engine mount its just very tight with it still on. I couldn't be bothered with taking my mount off when I did it.

Sorry to say this, but I found it made no diff in any way. My most noticeable gain instead was changing the CAF to larger dia. and an ITG filter.

No m8, but been thinking about doing it. I need to wait though for a few months as I need the car to commute and don't want to take ANY risks. It should become my second car hopefully in the spring. TBH it always felt quick as well.

  PH1 172 Sport
Without a remap the car will be getting more air, but upto a certain point it will not be injecting more fuel to match the increase in air hence no noticible power gain. Your car will also probably be running lean because of this.

I would say a remap is pretty risk free. All it does is adjust fueling so that your engine is running optimum for the mods that you have made etc. Most people on here are running remaps on there daily drivers including me. Well worth getting one IMO. Maybe get an rstuner kit?

RS ecu's self adapt after and hundred or so miles, but RSTuner or a remap will put a dedicated and better map for ther mods

they seem to "learn" /adapt but within it's OEM setup limitations. The remap would'nt be neccescary if the ecu would adapt itself to the change in the inlets.

For example, i had a Simota Aeroform and the car never adapted to cope with the large amount of air coming in (was total s**t, lost power everywhere) , with a remap to suit it would have been better.

  PH1 172 Sport
^^ Exactly. I had a generic remap when I had my matched inlets installed and the carstarted to run lean because of the extra air the engine was getting so I had to have a custom remap done to suit my mods and the difference it made was amazing.

We are talking about a standard part that has been enlargened to the correct hole size it should of been when it cam out of the factory so surely they woul d of mapped it to them! It was just dodgy renault machines that didnt CNC them correctly!

  LY 182
my inlets are matched, i've recently bolted a spare plenham on it temporary (not matched to the lower so the lowers enlarged and the uppers standard)

and i seem to have gained a noticable amount of torque.

going to see if thats true on the rr in jan

It will be mapped to whatever the inlets were like on the car that they did the ecu on so probably unmatched.

  182, SQ7, Trafic
^^^ Not true, Renault would of done extensive testing on a car they are going to mass produce and but the same base map on each one!

You think there is some employee at reanult that maps every single car that comes out of the factory lol!

  PH1 172 Sport
Yeah I really am that stupid..... hahaha:rolleyes:

Yes they would have done extensive testing but the map used will have to have come from a car that has production parts. So as I said the map will most likely have been done on a car that has unmatched inlets.

Otherwise they would be running rich out of the factory and we all wouldn't bother having remaps once we have modified the inlets etc.

i had mine done at GDI, used the drive in service, top notch

highly recommended, i haven't yet had my car mapped again to suit but the rortier engine noise is worth the price alone IMO

If you are having your inlets done then you may as well opt for our gasket set too.. not trauling the forums for business but reading through what most people are doing at the moment is to fit these when having the flowed inlets done.

In conjunction people (including caister above) have seen good results. Drop me a PM if your interested.

p.s. I'm sure the more flowed RS inlets (which aren't quite as good as angelworks equiv.) but are OEM would still be on the same base map as every other 172 - I would have though flowed inlets a drive in drive out without any other adaptation?

  182, SQ7, Trafic
The original 172 that were used for testing i.e getting the map ready, would of more than likely had decent IM's

  182, SQ7, Trafic
Good sales people ;)

But the Remap also counts in other factors E.g, Better exhaust, decat, Different filter etc...
