matched inlets

  clio 172 cup
i am new to all this engine modding stuff and just heard lot of people on about it what does it mean ?

The inlet manifold is a poor match to the inlet ports on the cylinder head.

If you get the inlet matched then the air flow into the engine should be improved hence more power etc.

RS stamped manifolds (late (2003) Ph2 172s onwards) are a better match than non stamped ones but still benefit from matching.

ok mate i have a 2004 53 172 cup. what sort of gains would i be getting on this.

Do a search there's loads of info.

Cost probably 140-200. Try Jamsport, AWT and others...

You probably have an RS manifold. You can check by removing the fuel rail guard and having a look. With an RS manifold the benefit is less clear cut. Some people have said it is worth it others have said they noticed no difference.

some have noticed no difference, even with a non-RS lower. no way you can be sure you will or won't and is one of those mods that you have to spend on before you find out seemingly.

didn't know the RS inlet was fitted from '03 onwards - nice snippet

RR before and after ? is that no way of knowing ?

I made 167bhp before and 175bhp after iirc.

Definally worth the money.

sorry - was thinking in terms of feel, rather than measurement. would hope an additional 8hp ontop of 170ish in a light car would be noticeable. must be that some aren't all that bad 'out of the box' (despite physical appearance of ports). guess it's going to depend upon the individual car/engine, and its owner:)
