Matching Head Unit to Speakers

Car  Storm Grey 200
Im looking to upgrade my head unit and speakers, the head unit i want has 4 50w outputs so do the speakers i plug it into have to have a rms of 50w or can the rms be lower as the peak is 280w?

you have standard speakers with an aftermarket hu,are you bothered then?sposed to but minimal damage at low/medium volumes

my h/u is 50 w x 4 to, im usin std speakers and its made a world of difrence to their clarity:)

exactly but you are sposed to have slightly higher rated speakers, and some radios dont actually quote rms for radios, only says 50w x 4 which on some can mean 50w x 4 max!

On 99% of units its 50 x 4 MAX. They usually have the RMS value wrote in the specs. Never normally goes higher than 25w RMS.
