me with a lamborghini gallardo

  clio 172 sport, zxr6
my wonderfull girlfriend got me a driving experience day at elvington air strip york. it was in a rather stunning yellow lamborghini gallardo. when we got there the track was buzzing with a mix of top end cars porsche, ferrari

for my sighting laps they used a new subaru prodrive. nice car looks better in the flesh. the track had 4 cichanes and 2 staights all mapped out with cones (little cones)

right then it was the big momment the lambo
get in the drivers seat and get a briefing on the pedals

the right 1 is the accelerator,
and the next 1 is the brake,
the car is an automatic so you do nothing with your left foot,
try and put your foot on the brake he says,
no no make sure you have your full foot on the pedal,

then he talks me through the gears,
its a paddle shift right paddleis up,
left paddle is down,
you will only need to change down to 3rd gear no lower,
it will drive the track in 4th or 5th,

once i had my first driving lesson it was time to go
select 1st gear and give it a little throttle,
more throttle,

so i did and changed up into 2nd and kept it planted,
no no slow down take your time on your first lap,
1st corner
dont turn that much (he crabs the steering wheel)
1st chichane
slow down move into the middle

you get the point
he did stop a little but he still wouldnt let me really drive it. but i did get him to grab the door hadle and go for the brakes at one point

really good car

a bit of a con driving day

Aye, we did the same with the ferrari challenge experience at knockhill!!! Cars's worth most than most these guys houses!

I was quite disappointed with my single seater thing at Brands. Having just caned down the motorway in a modded RS Turbo at some speed in pissing rain, to be told "4k revs is the max you can use or we'll black flag you" was somewhat s**t...

I did a Formula Ford day at Coombe, they were brilliant, it had been pi$$ing down all day and when they give us the brief they just said, "This is going to be fun", the first two span off coming onto the home straight and missed each other on the grass by inches. Fecking Hiliarious

i reckon lots of people have had the same experience with them. i know why they do it they ar ejust looking after there car which is fair play really but it would be nice to just drive it

sounds pants tbh.

I realy have no interest in driving a car like that. Last week a customer of mine offered me the chance to drive her 911 carrera 4s. Turned that down.

I did do a single seater day at silverstone and that was quite good. Rally driving experiance i did near oxford was ace tho and was about £70 off ebay

but you get to thrash it, some lad from round near me must of rented a porker n stuffed it into the curb on Cromwell Ave just at the lights at St Greggs (for anyone from warrington) we were behind him stuffed it into the curb n propper Fooked it, so we stopped n he got out asked if he was ok, he said he was fine n asked us to look after the car as he only lived in the houses behind the feild and run to get the documents police turned up told them what happened n they said its a rental lad never came back lol (pointless story just thought id share)

Italian pap, what do you expect?

When I drove both Lambos there was a disclaimer on the paperwork which said "On some occasions both cars may not be available due to mechanical breakdowns" or something to that effect.

Luckily both were fine, and I even got to chose to drive both manuals. :approve:

I've had a ferrari experience about 7 years ago. The whole day was great but only ended up with 7 laps. All the others were in proton and Elise. Bit of a con.

Single seater at Silverstone was greta though. Driver briefing, thrown straight into the car to follow a pace car that slowly got quicker for 20 mins. Quick chat whilst in the car to make sure everything was ok. Then provided no one had been a dick or crashed in the last session you were allowed out for 20 mins on your own. Much better! Only 2 of us didn't spin. lol.

Lambo's are german now so they should in fairness be a bit better than the Ferrari's. A guy I deal with owned an F430 for all of about three weeks before he took it back to the dealers and told them where to shove it. He said he couldn't deal with the hassle and embarrasment of not knowing if it would start each time he got in it, lol.

what do you expect? you're driving a £120K+ car and you reckon they're just gonna let you get on with it?

as an instructor you have the job of satisfying the customer, looking after the car, and not going home in a bodybag! if you listen to what the instructor says then you'll be fine, i've never had to grab the wheel of anyone, but i have however hit the kill switch a few times because people just don't listen and think they know better! how many supercars have you driven? you think a gallardo is anything like a mondeo? its completley different!

i let people thrash the crap out of the cars, ONLY if they satisfy me they're capable of handling it

Exactly!

Sit there, LISTEN to what you're told, do what you're told, and you'll have a blast.

Get in thinking you're the next F1 star and you'll have a s*** time.

thats my point and i was just trying to show people what they get
i knew before i got there what i was going to get

as for cars iam quite lucky as some of my friends have some top motors like 450bhp escort cosworths that is much faster and responsive to drive than anything else ive ever drove once you get past the lag:clown:

plus ive drove a couple of ferrari 360 spiders, porsches 911, aston martins, subaru p1, new m3. track days on motor bikes and rode some top end bikes r1, zx10

but thats not the point i tottally agree with you that you carnt just let people rag it for 4 laps

Yup, if you don't behave they won't let you have any fun, and won't let you do the high speed run foot to the floor straight at the end.

The first instructor I had in the Murcielago actually marked me down for getting to close to a Ferrari, but was fine with my driving. I wanted to pass the Ferrari!! I paid good money for that session and wasn't having some t**t spoil it. Plus the brakes were shot so it wasn't exactly safe to push to hard.

The second instructor I had in the Gallardo was superb. He let me really have some fun, and encouraged me to pass slower cars. I even had a bit of a sideways moment. I expected him to ask me to calm down but instead told me to boot it. Apparently I was the best driver he'd had in all day, hey Fred. :approve:

lol mark your crap at using the qoute button lol, fred i've sat in and been in with quite a few drivers i can tell you his one really good driver he opened my eyes to how quickly you can drive a car, his probably one of the people on this forum if he didnt mind paying his toys off over a couple of years could buy the lambo he was in, i mean he shot through a brand new set of r888's in one track day and was chuffed i'm going to try and make mine last!!!

i have also been told by some work colleagues that have done these experience days how timid they are "not aloud to take it past --rpm" and "not aloud to make the tyres squeel" etc etc

plus this was a gift for mark he didnt go out and purchase it and i know he would have spent the money buying £8 brake pads to chase rs4's with

must depend where their at, i imagine some companies own the cars out right and others are on hire? and each track may have different insurance coverage
