Megane 275 cup s 10k review

So after being away for an overnight the cup s hit 10,000 miles.

Normally I'd make a project thread with updates but as it's a lease I'm not modifying a thing on it there's no point. Thought I'd give a review on the first new car I've had.

Got it just under a year ago on a great deal, only option I chose was flame red.

Initially mpg was shite, only hitting around 23 average although now it's sitting around 30-35 which I'm happy with. I love almost everything about the car. I use it daily but on the back roads it's a monster. I ruined a TTS the other day and kept up with a focus mk3 with ease. It really is an underrated car although sometimes the front LSD can make it a bit tricky on full throttle.

The only thing I dislike is the high ride height and the bouncy suspension. It can be quite tiresome on a long run. I looked into different springs but don't really want to modify as above.

It's a great car and I might look at buying a 250 when I'm done with this.

  Clio 182 - RB
Does that front sticker come as standard? Looks great, so much nicer than the older shape.

Very nice. I've just paid a deposit on a 265. Been running a Golf R for a year but it's been a bit boring. Looking forward to the Meg!

One of the best looking meganes. The colour is everything! Very jealous as i think they're a really good drive as standard nevermind 275 cup s form.

Need more pics!

How much was this one Chris if you don't mind me asking.

Cheers lads. You'll love it mate. They are very good to drive hard.

It's a lease mate. £220 a month I'm paying

If you think the ride is bouncy in that, try a 200 cup! My megane was like a limo compared to the clio

Would definitely consider one of these as my next car. Love them.

I'd definitely look into springs with that arch gap, do Cooksport do any for Mk3 Meganes?

220 a month is mental cheap.
It was a great deal at the time. Spec wise it's not awful either. I prefer the standard seats day to day compared with the recaros although the recaros do look lovely

There were some good deals around to lease these just before production stopped. Part of me wishes I had gone for one instead of the Golf.

Saying that, I saw a 16 plate Cup-S with 100 miles on it for £17.7k recently. It had leather Recaro seats and suede steering wheel too. Seems a bargain that.

That is a good deal! It's all about the spec though. They can be very expensive with the akra exhaust, onlins etc etc. If it had that it would be a bargain!

I just looked on Auto Trader but it seems to have gone. Can't remember the full spec. Still seemed a decent price for delivery mileage and pricey Leather Recaro option!

Definitely.

It's actually a great car standard so I can only imagine what the akra/ohlins/recaros add to it

Lovely car Chris and definitely a great replacement for the Trophy!
I saw a cup-s in this colour at a local Renault dealer a while back and fell in love with the colour! Absolutely stunning!
Enjoy it!

I had a MINI JCW for a while - really capable little car with loads of character. Loved the supercharger whine :tongueout:
But sold it a while back and bought a car I've been wanting for a while...

Only had it a few weeks but really liking it so far!
It's in as good a condition as the Trophy was and has a few nice mods - full turbo back CGR exhaust, RS tuning remap R26R spoiler..
Always fancied one!

  182 Trophy
The McLaren is the weekend car...if only!
I always really liked the Liquid Yellow colour and had only ever seen a LY182 in the flesh before.
Same goes for your 275, that Flame Red really makes it too! Really suits the lines of the car and looks Soooo good in the sunlight!

Really do like that 275, Flame Red is only available on the Cup-S's/Nav ? Either way, bargain for what are they nowadays.

I was looking at these at the time of ordering my Golf... @Cribert and i talked a fair bit about the Meg... i went and test drove them both and the golf felt the faster car and more along the lines of what i wanted. I think being 4WD helped in putting the power down, but looking back now the Megane would have been the more fun car. I'll be interested to hear what you think about the two as a direct comparison... the golf will feel a lot fast though.

Yeah mate comes as standard. Cruise control and speed limiter.

It's also got the RS button and Bluetooth which is all I need really

Looks great, they'll make an amazing used buy in 3 years.

The one i test drove in Hillington was LY, had the ohlins/akra/Recaros was absolutely amazing, special drive.

But at £500 a month or 28k, its one of the last things i'd buy.

Agreed mate. They're gonna lose big money at that price point. There's too much competition (m135, golf r etc)

Even the PCP deals were garbage. Its been sitting doing nothing since i test drove it 4 months ago.
Considering I've not seen another since I got mine a year ago it's no surprise. Folk don't want a more hardcore hot hatch anymore

I think my opinion was much the same as yours at the time. I drove both the Golf and the Megane and felt the Golf was the better choice for my needs and I did like the fact it was faster. However, I soon tired of it to be honest. It's extremely capable, but just not very exciting. It rarely goes into Race or manual mode, as I just don't really get any enjoyment out of driving it quickly. I've driven a couple of Megs in recent weeks and the speed difference is definitely noticeable, while the ride is also worse. However, the steering just feels 1000000% better and I like the fact the engine is a bit more harsh and feels a bit more old-fashioned. The Golf is a great daily but I'm hoping the Megane will put more of a smile on my face.

It's certainly going to be more of a compromise, but it's a box that I really want to tick. I'll probably only have it a year or two and then chop it in for something like an Octavia vRS estate, as a more practical car would be useful in reality. Looking forward to it in the meantime though!

Where are you from? Saw one exactly the same parked by Chatham Dockside at the weekend. Such a good looking Megane.

Looks good :) I bought mine outright and I am glad I did as not sure what Id replace it with. I'd not want to hand it back.

You mentioned suspension... do you find it reacts to bumps ok as I always think it takes too long to settle down after hitting a hole in the road or man hole cover etc almost like the rear suspension strut is too soft to cope. I honestly wish Id of gotten one with ohlins.

Ive done 14k in mine now and average 21 unless on a run when itll see 38-40 average with 40psi in the tyres.

Thought I’d give this a very small update! Car goes back next month and I’ve really enjoyed it and I will miss it!

Although needs must and I’ve bought a piece of s**t Avensis lol. Kind of looking forward to it.

The cars been great and is still immaculate. On another note it’s been absolutely balls in this weather
