Metal box for sub

Right, my mate has a JBL sub and it is in a metal JBL box. He says it makes the bass more deep and all this crap and its so much better than MDF. Can someone give me a decent answer about the facts on this. I reckon hes talking sh*t because i dont see anyone else making metal boxes!!!

mdf is used to absorb sound to a certain extent, a metal box on the other hand will reflect sound waves, which to a certain extent will amplify the sound, but itll still sound sh*t!

Tob e fair it does sound good, but not any better than an MDF box would sound
