Microsoft looks to 'Mojave' to revive Vista's image

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Oh man, I love flame wars.. not seen one for a while..

*sits back, loads Media Center/MythTV/Frontrow (just so I don't get flamed, I'll use all ;)), and grabs some popcorn* :rasp:

I'll use my AppleTV (which obvioulsy I'll have to call Frontrow) and watch from here as he gets very upset that someone might actually know something about IT *AND* like Vista *AND* be able to name any of a number of features that make it better than XP from a Business and a design point of view.

Oh, and if you really want to wave your penis around, find something you look after equivalent to a room full of HP-UX based boxes.

I don't need to willy-wave. I'm fine.

Anyway, /me grabs the iPhone and goes outside... mmmm, sunshine. (haha, listen to me not being a geek :p)

Imagine if KDF, Mike and myself all worked together? They're be war. I'd be there on my iPhone, being fully productive, Mike on his Dell laptop which he can't sell, and KDF there compiling wireless drivers so he can get onto the network. IT Crowd all over again! :p

Depended where you wanted to work! I'd not be using the D610 (please, I got more than that!). If you wanted to work out in the sunshine I might bring the ATG - 10hours battery life, HSUPA connectivity and a screen I can read with the sun shining on it with sunglasses on. True mobility - the beer garden laptop.

However, if you wanted to do it at a table, I'd possibly use the XPS - 1920x1200 screen resolution FTW! Or maybe I'd bring the Sony TZ2. That's quite nice to use, although a little sluggish compared to my D430. Decisions, decisions!

Being fully productive on your iPhone. Pah! You've got a pissy little screen, barely 3G connectivity speeds and iTunes and Safari. Wooooh go you! :rasp:

What do you think I do for a living?

Like I said, people who don't know computers will think its great.

So, I take it implementing and maintaining kit that most companies dream of using means I don't know computers? Tell me then, what is it you do that makes you god with computers? You ever used an Enterprise Virtual Array? How about set one up? You know how to put in Domino? Or what about putting a (Linux-based) Citrix Access Gateway into an environment that makes the government's security measures seem slack?

Back in your box keyboard warrior - not once have I taken a pop at your abilities, merely questioned your judgement of 'People who work in IT think it's awful'.

Bitlocker drive encryption is the best thing that's ever been available for our laptop users. Never again do we have to spend money on getting disks encrypted prior to loading the operating system.

That on it's own makes Vista an interesting proposition for our mobile users, as frequently confidential data is cached in people's offline files, saved to their desktops or to their C: drive.

So tell me now that Vista is a downgrade... A question for you though, is have you ever actually sat down and spent any time with Vista? There are better operating systems out there depending on your needs, but I can guarantee unless you've never gotten laid that you don't know how to do everything I can do within Vista, from a command prompt and Windows 3.11. It's called progress - sometimes things have to take an apparent step backwards to move forwards. I suppose being s**t hot at computers you know how much better the WDDM is at handling graphics components? Ok, it shoots legacy stuff off but hey, such is life.

A far fetched example is when we move to 'hovering' cars. That's going to be a pretty hard transition for those of us with normal cars, to the point it's probably going to seem like a step backwards.

Keep an open mind, you come across as an arrogant prick and I'm sure that's not your intention.

If it is, however, and you are that good, then where the hell is this operating system that you've written that's so much better?
i have EVA's coming out of my arse;), how about an XP (not the OS;)) for lunch......

Anyway, we must have committed IT suicide according to the Hoff as we have gone Vista for our desktop, but then we are also using a Windows 2008 domain, 2008 clustering on a 2007 exchange mailbox SSC server with 2008 terminal services and sql 2005 (only becuase 2008 isn't out yet). And quite frankly we have none of the problems we used to get with the old 2003 stuff.

New OS's come out for a reason, because they are better and fix the problems experienced in the previous versions rather than patching them up.

Regarding the ram convo further up, our exchange server is running with 12gb ram, and guess what, all 12 are being utilised, even though with the number of users we don't need it exchange 2007 will use everything you throw at it to make sure it runs as fast as possible so ram is always fully utilised, although people think it has performance issues as task manager is reporting that all ram is used up.

p.s. KDF probably has an EVA in his bedroom, hes not what i would call a keyboard warrior;)

wow, you really are willy waving today, do you think you're the only one in IT who looks after more than a few pc's..................

Actually, if you read your post above and my posts, we're fighting the same battle... Tool!

Maybe if he stopped behaving like one and making sweeping statements that you yourself have proven wrong...

Mike, theres no battle, well not for anyone apart from yourself it seems and you are the one making yourself look like a tool presuming you know more about IT than anyone else on here because you have worked on an EVA and fiddle with the old HPUX box.

I know we are on the same side (much as i don't want to be) but that doesn't stop me from thinking your posts are somewhat my dad's harder than your dad.

And my comment about KDF, hes not a keyboard warrior, hes very pro linux, yes, but we all know that on here and take what he posts as banter as its always the same old tune, and thats why we love him.

I guess its just old skool, which i guess you aren't.

PMSL.. thank you.. you made me laugh.

I was just trying to wind people up to see if they would bite, sorry :rasp: I'm sure your very good at what you do, and you appear to know a lot more than me in certain areas.

With regards to Domino im just about to go through my LCP and LACP exams. Oh and nice D830, its the same as I am using.. minus the fosters.

PS. Vista is still s**t.

Glad I achieved the desired effect.

Enjoy your Lotus Notes and Domino... Ghey systems lol. :rasp: Why anyone would choose it for email is beyond me - it's great at everything else although apparently 8 makes a hell of a step in the right direction.

And i you look closely it's a D630 ATG - weighs as much as an american footballer and allegedly bounces. :D

Honestly not my choice ! Lotus is a bit of a nightmare TBH. Nothing makes sense.. and I don't mean I don't understand it.. there just seems to be no logic to the way things are done.

I actually use sendmail (booo ;) again not my choice as I prefer postfix) with milters / virus checkers to handle all the mail then forward to the domino mail system.

I'm actually testing version 8 before we distro it to all the users (I'm upgrading the domino mail server to 8 this coming w/end). Its sure is a lot nicer to work with is much more modern looking and has an 'outlook' feel to it now, but it definitely 'feels' slow.
