Mis-firing half way through a journey

  RB 182 cup
Half way through my journey my car started mis-firing and was just not going anywhere when I put my foot down, sounds very weird at idle as well. Could this just be my coilpack and plugs or something totally different?

cheers Blane

I still think it sounds like what happened to mine Blane. It was one of the pencil ignition coils

Gonna have to try that then, is that the long plastic things that you unscrew which sit on top of the plugs?

Yep, I'd get some as spares too as you will be changing them regularly going from experience.

Anyone got a link to where you can purchase these as i think i could do with cahnging a few,

Or is it easier just to change the coil pack and have a spare ??

172's dont have pencil coils, so unless you've got a 1.4/1.6 it doesn't apply to you mate.

Yep sounds like a pencil coil is faulty, if you take each one out individually, the one that doesn't make the car run worse is the knackered one.

I was shown by the RAC guy to unplug the injectors 1 by 1 underneath the metal block and when the engine stops running rough then that's the coil to change.

^^ Try this. I tried the method below but found the engine ran the same everytime I took a coil out

changed the plugs last night but carried on misfiring.. the plugs were due a change anyway. Got a new pencil coil this aft and found it wasnt firing on cylinder 3 due to a faulty pencil coil. Went for a quick drive with the new pencil coil and everything seems to be fine now.
