misfire on cylinder 2

I had a misfire develop during todays meet. It developed from a judder around 2.5k to pops while idling. emissions light flashing.
Luke. got on the phone to Dr Gray.
As always first ideas was lambda sensor..

Limped home...

Got in, on the obd i got two codes

'cat faulty' or whatever, this was an old code from when my cat was blowing.

along with,

'p0300 - random misfire' this was a new one

I erased the codes, started up still seemed lumpy but wasnt popping.
Idling i had no codes or odd live data.

Thought i still check this out.

I started at the start. Checked all the sparks and cleaned them, didnt find anything odd. built it back up.

Was idling much better. Went a 10 min blast. no codes, no misfiring and no odd live data.

I thought that had cured it. Drove about 10 miles and the misfire returned.
this time a specific misfire on cylinder 2 (p0302). No odd live data or anomalies other then the misfire logged.

Still chance of it being a Lambda, HT lead, spark plug or injector?

Never removed an injector so if some one could give us a shout on how to do this it would be handy.

Iv searched for misfiring related threads and most point to the above areas and some to some scary stuff :(

Cheers.

I'd try swapping the ht lead to see if the fault moves with it. Obviously swap it completely from coilpack to plug not just at the plug.

You just have to pull the rail out and all 4 injectors will pop out. Just be careful and make sure you pull them out "square" so you dont pinch the seals.

chances are an injector, couple checks to tell. place the end of a long screwdriver on them all and put your ear on the other end and listen for it giving a steady click repeatidly in rythem to the engine,

or pull the connectors off the injectors one at a time and if the engine note doesnt change then you have found the faulty one, replace it.

to replace just undo the 2 bolts that hold the rail to the head and pull the rail at both ends gently and they all should come out. Then undo the clip that holds the injector to the rail, it should slide out sideways, pull the injector out (might be a little tight but it will come) pop the new one in making sure the small hole goes the the front so that the notch on the clip holds it in and stops it from turning, put the clip in, bolt the rail on connect it up and it should be fine.

Chances are that another injector will go shortly after the one you replace so keep that in mind

hope this helps

So today before i started removing stuff to get to leeds and plugs i thought id check hoses.

I found a kink in the main breather hose. Corrected this erased the misfire codes since doing so iv done 15 mile of mixed driving running well at 35mpg at mixed paces.

I wont hold my breath though.
