Mk1 172 Creaking Noise Help Please

  Evo VI Tommi Makinen
Hi All,

I have a problem which has started occuring during the last month.
If I apply the brakes harder than normal coming up to a set of lights about 20mph until the car stops then let off the pedal. I get a creaking groaning noise come from the front end as if something is decompressing.
I also get this if I come to a stop when doing a 3 point turn with the wheels on full lock and then again when I reverse with them on full lock then come to a stop.
If you push up and down on the front wings you dont get any noise from springs and shocks so it aint them.Besides I have just wax oiled all up the struts to attempt to get rid of this problem.

Any Ideas anyone. The only thing I can think it might be are the bushes or something like that???

Thanks
Rob

Brake calipers I reckon. Take the pads out and give it all a real good clean (you'll need to buy a set of new bolts - about £1.50). It might cure it.

Don't think its the calipers, just had new discs and pads on. Also when breaking gently dont get any creaking noise at all. Also if I press the pedal down hard when the car is at standstill the noise is not there either. Its definately something suspension related.

Thanks anyways ;)

Think mines developed the exact same problem as yours this last week. do you get a kind of clunking noise when travelling on a uneven road too ??

Im thinking its gotta be either the anti roll bar or worn bushes somewhere

Doesnt happen on a flat road only under compression i.e. going over speed bumps and braking / accellerating heavily. Its really pi**ing me off now. Had it up on axel stands today and wd40 all possible bushes engine mounts, shocks etc. and its still bloody doing it. Its definaltely from the front end and appears to come from the passinger side.
It occurs if I press hard on the brakes at about 10 mph then let go. and if I reverse whilst on full lock then brake I get the creaking/squeaking noise again.
Think I might smash it in to a wall its really getting to me. now. Only happened over the last few weeks.
