Its a question that doesn't need answering imo, if you can afford it then 172 every time. The only reason i've got a 1.6 instead of a 172 is that insurance on the latter is £3.5k.

If you get a 172 kit etc you'll only be aiming to make a 1.6 powered 172 looker.. Why not save the insurance etc hastle and buy one the price will be about the same only difference is that you'll have 172 brakes suspension etc.

Save for a V6 is thats the top of the cars you want.
There a phase 1 for £11k on the trader at the moment.
