Mk1 Heater

It was working on dial position 3 only. Then it started gettig intermittent. Now it has stopped working altogether and its getting cold - nice timing !

I am guessing it is the resistors (as position 1 and 2 have probably burnt out first having to take most of the resistance to slow the fan down).

I have taken the switch/dial panel out and there is a block connector there. Does anyone know what the colours correspond to so that i can check that the switch is working (or not).

Secondly does anyone know where the resistors are located? Are they part of the switch or located externally?

if its buggered, ive got a spare heater matrix, and control panel available, let me know if its any use.

well when it works it pumps out hot air, but only at level 3 so the matrix itself isnt blocked or anything. the fan also worls, albeit when it feels like it.

so its the switch or the resistors.

any idea on the wiring or location of the resistors?

im not certain on this one, but isnt there some kind of resistor on the back of the panel, this is a common failure, cant remember what its called

This happened to mine it was the heater resistor under the scuttle panel. Access from the drivers side need to remove windscreen wiper motor which is only 3 bolts, then you can see the resistor clipped/screwed onto the side of the blower with a plug in it facing you, that has most likely burnt out/broken.
