mk1 vs mk2 mechanical differences

What are the mechanical differences between the mk1 and mk2 172 engines, gear boxes ,etc

The throttle bodies were slightly different as well I seem to remember.

cool. so which in your opinion is the more tunable engine?

Theyre both pretty much maxed out, but you can get a few extra BHP (10+) out of either with induction / zorst / chip. Extreme measures to get much more.

Hehehe, Mike theres loads more you can get out of them, ok you need a fair chuckocash to get there, but there are options like throttle bodies, headwork, balancing / lightening, supercharging/turbo charging, even N20 and obviously some at much more cost than others.

It all depends on how much ya wana tune and how much you wana spend, Im sure BenR could come in a give some more details

i think the vairable valve timing could be used more effectively

i heard that it works at very low revs only

LOL John - as I said Extreme measures - i.e. not things you can buy at Halfords!! Still trying to find some time to get down to London Superchips in the next few weeks - will let you know if I can find a spare day.

well, most motors yo can get today you wont be able to get anything worth the money with bolt of stuff.

mechanically diff, FBW, TB is smaller diameter with a taper (for torque), single cat with twin lambda, manifold is the same, ECU, not sure on the box, not looked....

as for the VVT, its basically useless.......as std...and changing its operational profile will not really yield much on teh std cam, maybe a wilder cam, but its proabably easier to leave it and get a set of TBs on there for roughly 215bhp
