MK2 Golf project

Picked up my golf a couple of weeks back. its a 1.3C 1987 Mk2 Golf. 47k from new. Few little things to be done, but otherwise pretty sound.

Heres out she was when i picked her up.

Not much done as of yet. Given it a service, oil, oil filter, air filter, plugs, fuel filter, both rear wheel bearings and a new grille badge. This is how she sits now, with my mates near identical one.

Tried out some back to black, which really brought out the grille but the bumpers have faded again. Will look for alternative measures.

Also flattened the rear wiper as i didn't want to remove it but looks much better then standard.

Next on the list is wheels and lows. Here are the gems that will be arriving on Monday.

15" G60 banded Steels, 8.5" wide on Toyo T1r's 195/45

Will be buying the coilovers for it in 2 weeks then unsure of where to go.

Will be test fitting the wheels on tuesday/wednesday of next week to see how much poke they have, but wont put them on properly untill i have the coilovers, and also give the inner arches a good clean. Did one of the rears and paint is still fresh with no signs of rust. Arches have a little rust but will sort out in due time.

Use Plasticare on the bumpers mate, really refreshes the bumpers and it dyes them rather than sitting on the surface so it doesn't fade.

Updates today; picked up my banded steels from couriers today, popped them on the golf and totally changes the look of the car. cant wait to have the coilovers on so its sitting sweet. Also put on the armour door plates around the handles to cover the gap where previously vandalised, and also stop someone levering out the handle with a screwdriver.

Small updates today, fixed the indicator taht had been bent into the front bumper and also fitted smoked lenses. Also got some pics of the sump, which is worse that it was a weeks ago. New sump + gaskit will be on order on payday along with the coilovers.

Everyone loves pics:

New smoked indicators. Seriously need to sort the bumpers out, sun had faded them so bad.

Rotten sump is rotten.

To-do list:
Sump pan, sump gaskit, coilovers, amber indicator bulbs, fix door (drivers side is locked shut...), wiper relay (intermittent doesn't work), more perm solution for black bumpers, MOT, tax, other things i have forgotten.

Used some linseed oil on the bumpes today, wow they look good. hope it stay like it. PICS:

Bumpers look great! If it's not permanent I believe it lasts alot longer than back to black!

Bumper looks much better, where did you get the linseed oil from?

@Djw Dave Boiled linseed oil, from homebase or b & q. They still look lovely and black now.

Some updates, i have sold my Clio so the golf is needed
MOT is booked in for Saturday and doing work to it tomorrow to get it ready.
Parts ready to go on:
-New Sump + Gasket
-Front brake flexis (advisory on last years MOT as cracked)
-Door membranes
-Front top mounts

Also got the amber indicator bulbs and a new wiper relay, but the intermitant wiper issue still persists so will need to investigate further.
And the postman brought me these today:

Which means i had to borrow an arch roller from my mate:

Hopefully it should go through the MOT, standard wheels are going back on. Then the fun can begin with coilovers and the banded G60s Will ofc update with pics as soon as coilovers are on

Probably all from the same factory. I got tuning art in the end, only because postage was good and they were £162 cheapest on ebay atm. Will let you know how i get on when they're on

not on yet mate, took bloody ages changing the sump yesterday, one bolt is behind a driveshaft the other behind the eshaust. right cnut to do!

Went straight through MOT, proper chuffed, mate put the coilovers on yesterday. They are pretty hard and not too forgiving over bumps.
Also tried fitting the banded g60s but I'm going to need allot of arch work to get them to fit.

Congrats on the MOT pass. i'd expect a pretty hard ride tbh. There is a set of racelands for 159, tempted tbh.

Its my 18th tomorrow so prob wont get allot done this weekend, hope to roll arches next weekend and get G60s fitted.
