mobiles with gps?

Two of my mates are well into their gadgets, they both have that white microsoft phone from orange looks like a pda, it has roaming OS gps maps which tells you your average speed, distance, total accent/decent heights also it has full TOM TOM exactly like my TomTom 510, its touch screen , they watch films on them , the list goes on and on. mental bit of kit

i dont think you'll get tomtom on ur mobile, it only works with pocketpc/symbian mobiles due to the processing requirements. there are a few simple java apps which connect over gprs to googlemaps, and gps via bluetooth, to give you a good picture of where you are... but then there are datacharges to worry about :/

Its not as good as external bluetooth ones though N95 can take up to 10 minutes to get a lock ! although you also have the option of using a bluetooth one with the N95.

Guy at work has an N95. He says it's useless when walking around a city centre. One example; he walked up and down a street three times because he'd walk 30 yards or so and it'd tell him to turn around.

You can get TomTom on a Nokia as long as it is running S60 software. I have it on my N95 and it works perfectly.... but not with the inbuilt GPS. I use an external receiver which works through Bluetooth.

Apparently TomTom are going to release software that allows inbuilt phone GPS, but with the N95 it may not be all that great. Current GPS recievers use III technology whereas the N95 is using II. More phones are in the line up to feature inbuilt GPS but it will take a while for the technology to settle.

Other software for S60 and PDA OS systems are available that allow the use of inbuilt GPS but from what I researched when looking at mine, they really aren't that great at all.

Hmm, I wonder if he has a dodgy unit. He was walking around London Village I believe at that time, maybe that's a factor.

Was he using the inbuilt Maps software? If so, it's really not very good. And costs to download on-the-fly.

Might have just had an off day lol If it's a really built up area and he's cold started it sometimes the locking takes a while. Turning it on once (where there was no radio signal etc) caused an issue, but restarting it a few metres away seemed to sort it.

Been talking to the lads today, this is the phone they have, they have both got Tom Tom and OS software on them , they got the software free off the net, I am going to get one to replace my K800i Sony
