Modifying electric windows

  ClioSport 172 Cup
You know how the drivers side electric window goes up on its own with just one pull of the switch. How difficult would it be to modify the passenger side window to do the same, rather than having to hold the switch to make it go all the way up???

I have basic knowledge of car wiring, just need pointing in the right direction...if anyone knows?

I was looking into this recently! Beat me to it :p

Even if it's done throught the ECU, you will still need to replace the switch itself as you can press it further for the click.

I've just had a gander at the workings of the switch. The double click to enable auto down is triggered through the switch pressing down the "down" AND "up" buttons in that order, and reversed for auto up.

I swapped my driver side switch to my passenger side to simulate the same thing, and it just stops the window :( So it must be an ECU thing :p

Any idea on the costings of this? It would be such a handy feature!

Are we sure its not just a special type of relay thats timed. Why would the windows be controlled through the ECU???

does each window have its own relay if so swap them to see if it makes a difference

So when it comes to hitting the nail on the head how can this be done then? :)

WILL be one of the most popular mods on here if it works out IMHO!

You will need to wire in a resistor and capacitor to fool the window motor into thinking the switch is being held on, so when you press the button it automatically goes the whole way up. I recently did this on my mini and works one touch up and down (only did down before). Although I don't know if the Clio has pressure sensors on the windows that make the window stop going up if it gets blocked (i.e by a childs finger or puppys head etc).

I know the MK3 definately does have pressure sensors, mine does anyway. If you've got it to work with one-touch, how would you go about putting the window half-way down? Press down and then when it's at the desired level pull the switch up or would that make it wind all the way up?

The mk3 doesn't have pressure sensors as such. As I mentioned in my previous post, it has 2 buttons beneath the switch. One which makes the window go up, one which makes it go down. To make the window go auto down, the down button is pressed, THEN the up button. This gives off the double click feel.

Sorry about the poor quality.

The underside of the switch has a plastic mechanism which allows you to double click, but when placing it on the passenger button, it doesn't work so it must be the unit itself containing a resistor or something.
I'd imagine that if you were to replace the unit on the top of that photo (the passenger side button) with the one on the bottom from another mk3, it would work in the same way.

I'm off to the scrap yard tomorrow hopefully to try and bash two together and see what happens! I'll keep you posted!

Sorry, its been a while.

From what i know of it can be done through the mapping of an ECU, ive been told people with an RSTuner can do it, how tho, I dont know.

Its nothing to do with the actual switch, ive connected my main switch to the passenger side, switchs from other cars and wired em in and many other forms.

Best way is ask some one to map it in for you.
