more ram

my laptop aint been running 2 fast lately.think it could need bit of an upgrade as its over a year old... its got 256 mb ram and will take a max of 756 or something???will i notice much of a difference with all that extra ram???also how do i find out what type ive got its a packard bell easynote......

also has a amd athlon processor if that makes any difference or is upgradeable.???
