i've heard of cars failing because they cant get them on the ramps.
you cant 'fail' for it being too low unless its unsafe. however you will get refused at alot of places as they cant get it on the ramps to get it tested.

Why not just raise it for the mot it will only take ten minute and then you are not risking failing
Things to check:
General rubbing/knocking.
Springs becoming unseated (when the car is raised up for example)
If the springs unseat themselves, it's a definate fail. Why not just raise it up as said? :S
