I am due an MOT and need a hand finding a 'race car' friendly center in Coventry.

Emissions won't pass with a decat. You need to source a cat unfortunately or find someone willing to put another car thru the test for you.

Have tried that route fella, its all very 'we could lose our jobs' scenario.
