MPG discovery

  Ziel Nurburgring

If you take one 172, fill it up and reset the trip computer. As you pull out onto the road, drive like miss daisy at 50mph you can get 48mpg.

Averaged 42 mpg over 100 miles in my Cup, never took it over 4k and never accelerated hard. Good to know these cars can be economical when you want them to be. Cant think of many cars that could do mailto:14.1@98mph">14.1@98mph and still hit 42 mpg?!

  Ford Fiesta

mines currently sat at 35.1MPG thats using a 5300 mile average have not reset it since new.

how accurate is the trip computer? mine tends to read about 2 mpg over the actual true figure. Also the "gallons used" under reads a little, the other day it said i had used 7.6 gallons and i managed to get 8.2 gallons in when filling up.

mine reads about 2 mpg over actual figure as well. I had my counter reach 49.7mpg over 75 miles of 60mph motorway and 50mph back lane crawling. Now done 240 miles and the counters at 39mpg. Ive had my 172 5-6 weeks and get between 37-39mpg average per tank (so actually 35-37 avg). My last car was a baleno 1.8 gsr which gave me on avg 27mpg! Performance was equivalent to a vtr/zetec-s so economy was naff considering.

Is it best just to leave the trip or do like i do and re set it every fill up just wondered might be wrong in what i am doing ..

  Clio 172 Mk2

Just been up to Liverpool and back south (400 mile roundtrip) and virtually all of that was motorway driving... got 35.4mpg at an average speed of 65mph... 40mins in crawling tailbacks, and just over 5 hours in at just above legal speeds!!! ;) Not bad I say!

  GW Clio 200

bloody hell!! where am i going wrong then??? if i drive like miss daisy, i can just get 30mpg if i drive "normal" i get around 27.5-28. if i whoop its arse a bit it goes down to 25-26... this cos i got a big amp maybe?? wouldnt have thought it would make that much difference??

If you stick to 30s & 40s but 75-80 when not obstructed, with varied mix of gentle and hard acceleration you should easily get 35mpg on counter (33+ in practice).

what he said ^^^^^

My mk2 172 is currently sitting at 37mpg. I reset after every refill and it is usually 2mpg over actual.

The key is smooth driving, gentle acceleration and changing gears at 3000rpm.

The biggest factor is the type of road you are driving.

Er, thats awful figures. Even driving it like a bstad i cant get it much below 30mpg. Either your TC is f*cked or somethings a miss on your car mate

  Civic Type R-GT (2007)

Since having my r-sport ecu, and decat on for about week now (resetting the trip computer when i did so) my average was reading 25.6mpg lol

I did a little experiment yesterday to see what it would be like to drive it sensibly and got 36mpg, well impressed, was boring as hell tho lol!

Way I see it, if ur gonna spend money on petrol u might as well enjoy using it!!

  Subaru WRX/BMWe30 Touring

Just out of curiosity checked mine on the way home from work tonight, 32-34mpg averaging between 80 - 90mph on the motorway - is that about normal?
