Today is discovered that my mpg drops on idle i was getting 32 mpg once i was driving but left on idle for about 10 mins it went down to 19 mpg is this normal or is somthing wrong thanks
Yes because on idle you are doing 0 mpg. It will show up a lot particularly if you have only recently reset the trip computer. If you've done a few hundred miles and its dropped that much in 10 mins then something is broken. I know 1.2 Clio's use about 2 litres of fuel an hour on idle according to the dash test trick.
Trust me, it does. The engine is running, and you are not moving. Regardless what car you drive for every second you are sat idling the car will have a lower average mile per gallon...Because it is doing 0 miles per gallon at that point.
I enjoy how uneducated people coast up to junction and roundabouts, or down hills because they think it will conserve fuel.
Im gonna guess your mate hasnt reset his mpg counter for ages, however if he left it idling long enough then it would drop. Idling means youre getting 0mpg!
