The clio 1.2 is faster than corsa 1.2's in 1st and 2nd. my mate pulls away in his corsa when we hit 3rd gear.

My experience in my old Clio was that the clio was faster in the 1st 2nd and part of 3rd but after that the Corsa wins, and also is better in the corners, unless you learn to use the bodyroll the Clio has... lol

They are quick enough little cars for a small engine.

Regret selling mines sometimes but had too...

haha im used to more power than all u 1*2's lol I only made this thread to state that i was SUPRISED it was faster than the factory said. NO BOASTING i no its slow. Just wanted to share my excitement. and u all poooooooooooooooo'd all over it n laughed :(

Guna cry.

TBH, lol at 172 owners with the holier than thou attitude. Newsflash, a 172 can be toasted by a decent diesel saloon, they're not quick.

I certainly felt my 1.2 was nippy enough, certainly 'felt' faster than what the 75bhp figure suggested. The weight helps, my mum had a 75bhp Polo 1.4 and it was a slug compared to my old Clio.

no point racing 1.2s they don't go anywhere! Your speedo probably over reads by 10% so it's probabyl close to renault figures

Wouldnt say there being holier than thou its just trying to test a 0-60 on any car, never mind a 1200cc without any timing gear (proper timing gear) not a mate with an abacus eating a big mac.

Seems pretty much a waste of time imo

Congratulations, you just failed your first test in sarcasm, the fact you were driving and attempted to time it at the same time is actually worse than your mate with the abacus and big-mac

Good Day Sir

Jealousy will get you nowhere mate. One day you'll be able to afford a 172. ;)

My 1.4 at least felt like it was pulling when you booted it albeit lightly, my mums 1.2 just makes a slightly deeper noise when you boot it.

Lol at Englelberts M3 destroy the infidel 2.0's attitude.

lol did you just say a corsa handles better than a clio or did i pick that up wrong?!

Yes i did, and i hate to say it because i have a passionate hate for Vauxhalls :(

But it all depends on how you drive the car i suppose..

But also i ment that the corsa has less body roll sorry.

My 1.2 speedo reads 115 screaming it's nuts off downhill but the GPS only reads 100 odd. This is why I don't bother timing lol.

  Clio 1.2 Dynamique
I got a 1.2, not even bothered trying timing the 0-60, it's ridiculously slow, and don't know what i's like to drive something fast, as I never have

What diesel saloon would you be referring to here?

The 1.2's are insurance group 2E i know that!

I jumped from my 1.2 to a 197 R27 and only cost a extra £110 on insurance with still 11 months remaining on my policy!

Only 20 years old too!

Sorry went a bit off-topic.

Pretty much any lol, 172's aren't really classed as quick anymore, pretty much average.

On the go, most 2.0+ diesels can keep up with a 1*2.

I have never come up against a diesel which has beaten me - raced A3s, Golfs, 1 and 3 Series (4 cylinders)

I've never really "raced" anything as it's not my thing, but on the go, overtaking for example, a 172 can struggle to keep up with many diesels!! Even those standard 130 golfs.

0-60 isn't a diesels strong point due to low revs and gearing, but on the go many will show a 172 it's ass. Diesel is the way forward. Having to rev the nuts off a car is tedious lol.

turbo'ed petrol engines are the way forward imo, decent power band, decent amount of torque and you don't sound like a tractor.

Actually, the first Clio I ever had was a 1.2 8v Oasis. I can't ever remember reaching the rev limit in that. Infact, I don't think it even had a rev counter display!

Re: when I mentioned bouncing my 1.4 off the rev limiter earlier. I said never again not becuase I thought it would damage the car, just that the almighty 'bump' I felt as it bounced off isn't something I'd like to experience again. Smooth, it certainly wasn't.
