Had my D40 a couple of days now and wanted to ask for advice/improvement. Never had a dslr before so here's my first attempts (all un-edited)...

Oh and more importantly my 1 week old son :approve: !

You mean all the toys and what not in the BG?

Also you can see my shadow in the bottom left hand corner of the top 2 pics... how can I avoid this? My room was pretty dark at the time and I changed my ISO in conjunction with this. I think it was set to about 1600 iirc.

either use flash, which in that situation i can understand you not wanting to, or use a reflector

I did use flash in that... the images I was taking without flash were coming out way too dark.

wtf is a reflector?
