My car has gone :-(

Since last thursday when it went to the dealers for them to check the exhaust it has now managed to develop a rather large hole!!!

It took it to them about an hour ago to see if it was safe to drive they said no and sent me on my way.

So I asked to speak to a Manager!!! My car has been back on numerous occasions for them to look at the exhaust which rattled. They always come back and say there is nothing wrong. Until last week when they said it needed replacing not urgently but needed doing anyway. But they said I would have to pay 20%. They must be having a laugh!!! It conveniently needs replacing when just out of the first 12 months warranty!! . So after several heated converstation with Renault they are going to replace it without charge. So it was all booked in for Tuesday next week.

Until this happened! Basically, big hole, lots of noise, How the fcuk has that happened. They said I would have to leave the car and they had no courtesy car for me, so I would be without a car until next wednesday. So....I shouted at a service manager for a bit told him what I though of Renault, the dealer and their service!! . I now have a courtesy car and my next service will be free!!

I now have a 1.2 Clio which is pretty nice, the steering is sooooooo light and the brakes are almost as good as mine . And I dont pay for tyres so they will be bald when it goes back

A hole in the exhaust is a classic mod! You shoulda left it!

The brakes are good initially (R5 GTT brakes after all) but theyre crap after a bit of abuse.

Sorry to hear about the exhaust problems, but its to be expected judging by the number of other people who have had exhaust issues. Im running on borrowed time no doubt.

Dont blame you for having a go. Good to hear it paid off. I would have done the same thing but hopefully wont need to.

What I couldnt understand was the fact that the problem I had was only a rattle/vibration at about 4k revs now I have a hole which has come from nowhere after 14K miles. I just couldnt believe it!!

Can everyone expect this exhaust problem? If so, when does it begin? Is it through age, mileage done or the way the car has been driven? I thought the 172 has a stainless steel exhaust! Does it? I have never yet seen mine, it must be hiding somewhere behind the bumper!

Mine vibrated pretty much from new, but Renault always told me there was nothing wrong! Girlracer you should be able to hear it if there is a problem.

When driving along wind the window down and rev to about 4k revs and lifto your foot off the gas. You may be able to hear a vibration if not then nothing to worry about.

I thought I did. Mine rattled from new!! So in my case NO I cant answer for other people but I think other people had been experiencing it after about 4k miles.

In my opinion I dont think its age, I thinks its a design fault that could occur at any time. I just hope for most people it happens when they are covered under warranty. There have been so many cars affected that surely Renault MUST do something about it!! Opinions???

Following on from GeordiePauls topic about his faulty exhaust, just out of interest "HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR EXHAUSTS?"

* Which cars are involved?

* What age did problem occur?

* What was the mileage when problem occurred?

* How was it resolved with the dealer?
