My car is dead! HELP!

  220 Trophy, 172 Ph2
Sounds like the cam belt just by what you have described. Some engine have what you call run free which means when the belt snaps the different parts of the engine don't contact and it can save the valves and pistons but not sure on these ones.

Like said earlier you need to remove the cam belt cover and see if it has snapped.

It's not too bad if it has at least you can get the head ported and polished/gas flowed and put a stronger head gasket on and even change the cam any valves whilst you have it all off to increase the performance.

Sounds like a good idea to use uprated parts and moddify while it's all in pieces cause it won't be much if and dearer than the parts you will have to use anyway.

Anyone think it sounds like the solenoid not engaging the starter gear?

anyonethought of taking it to your nearest gargae instead of all trying to be mechanics
not being funy lik it is just i know a lad who is like this thins he can fix out always ends up going to somone who knows what they are alkin bout

Its 4pm on a Sunday afternoon, I think I will find it hard to get a garage thats open! And im not going to touch the car myself, I want to know whats wrong so that I can go to the garage and say, I suspect my cam belt has snapped and then they think I know what im talking about.

Anyway, whats the point in a fourm? to disscuss Clio's? We are all discussing what could be wrong with my car, so shut up and f**k off if you dont have anything decent to say!! Many thanks!

I think so, not 100% tho. I can see in the engine, theres a spring type thing i can see, should it move?

yes, the camshaft should turn around and that spring thing should go up and down!!

Its not moving at all mate, cam belt snapped?

If the bottom turns and that doesnt im afraid so! to be 100 % sure i would get that cover ofF and take a look at the belt, or get a mate to do it if your not mechanicly minded, it will be as slack as a goats ear of snapped!

I was just about to sell it to get a Valver as well!! :(

If the belt has snapped what kinda price do you reckon it would be to get it fixed? As the car only cost me about £220 or something!

More than that i should think, depends if you get it done by a friend or garage, but i will want a few valves, headgasket set, fresh oil and filter, new coolant, new cambelt. plus the time to do it!

f**k me sideways, no point in that all. its a R reg 1.2 lol

I have about 1k to spend on a car, was going to buy a new car soon anyway so will just need 2 stick to 1k instead of 1k + what ever i sold this for.

Would make a great sleeper lol, any 16v engines for sale? lol

Couldnt find the cam cover, uploading a pic just now......please hold.

ahh, its not as simple as first though, you need to remove the engine mount, and its the metal bit that its mounted too! under that black cable conduit with the white wtripe!!

i think the section under the cable forms an upper top cover itself, and should allow you to see the top of the camshaft pulley & the belt

doubt its ur timing belt, scare mongers on here lol

Probably an earthing thing or possibly coilpacks or fuelling

Sound like the cambelt which is a bit of a bummer, do those engines not have a plastic cover you can whip off through the wheel arch to have a look at the bottom pulley?

If you just sell it as it is then let me know as I would maybe be interested as a way of making a little money by dropping an engine in there - if it's cheap enough ;).

How cheap? lol

It sounds weird tho when you try and start it! Im fearing the worst atm, then if its not the timing belt its all good lol

Its snapped! :(:(:(:(

Got a machanic I know to come have a look at it and its snapped!

So now im left with the decision of fixing it and then selling or just taking the very few parts from it that are worth selling and then scrap the baby?

your thoughts please?

s**t mate that's bad news to hear. Hope you get something sorted out soon as a replacement if you're not fixing it.

Get a cheap second hand engne if you've got the skill or a friendly mechanic who'll fit for a good price.
