My Clio

  R6 2.0 XE'd Kangoo
any ideas how I could make my 1.2 clio faster?

its the clio mk1 1992, by the looks of the engine its had a replacement from the scrapyard and it has a Pancake Induction kit (the round one) and a peco end can and back box which sounds nice, but what other steps can I take to make my car faster,

bearing in mind about back seats heavy subs..

How much you got to spend?

Cheap: strip the interior out, remove the IK, fit decat, fit straight through centre section

Expensive: Buy 1.4 engine for 40quid and fit that, headwork, cam, 1.8 SPI TB

More Expensive: Buy GTT/1.8 16v/Williams engine and fit that

ok, so you can throw out everything from this car and leave only one seat. But what's next?
engine modifications will not give you the power you want, unless you install a turbo set which is possible, I knew one clio 1.2 like that, but...why bother?
any other modifications will give you, lets say, 5hp...but for what price?
it's useless, finding a 1.4 engine would be a better idea as this kind of swap is relatively simple.
swapping a bigger engine eg 1.816v would be much more difficult and you would have to to modifie the suspension and the brakes -driving a 1.8 which handles and brake like a 1.2 is not a good idea.

If You wan't speed simply sell Your car and look for a s16/williams or even a 1.8 8v -That will save You time, money and efforts

- Decat/stripping/straight-through centre section will give you about +5bhp and be reasonable nippy.
- Fitting a 1.4 will give +20bhp over your std 60bhp and is cheap to do as its the same basic engine.
- Headwork/cam/1.8SPI on the 1.4 will see close, if not more than 100bhp.
- Fitting a 1.6 bottom end to the 1.4 will add more.

I'd agree with what DziekanKRC says tho - the whole point of doing swaps/modding is to go faster on the cheap...since you can pick up 16vs for peanuts thesedays there no point modding about 1.4 as costs begin to rocket. The stuff i've listed above can be done reasonably cheap tho...

PM me Joel and I can give you the number of the garage I use (they converted the Nana, the white TB'd Clio, Clean16v's black valver and many more...). They can supply or supply and fit the engine... or, I know someone who has a VERY fast standard 1.8 engine. Over 100k but i'd bet my life it's one of the quickest valvers in the club as standard.

thanks, im 17 and i can't just "go and get a 16v/williams/1.8" i just want my car abit faster, so taking my induction kit of will make it quicker? lol i did notice my car smells like its over fueling, It doesn't have a amber cable connect my m8 says, if that means anything :-S

something 2 do with it knowing what fuel emissions are coming out... any ideas on that one??

I wonna make my standard car abit quicker, might put a 1.4 in it :) where could I get one and how much would it be to fit this? cheers boys...

=D Joe

he means lamda sensor i presume, it means it doesnt sense what the emissions are pre cat and therefore doesnt adjust its fuel/air mix. Your better off just buying a different car tbh. 1.4 conversion will just make insurance more exspensive then if you buy a 1.4

He wouldn't tell the insurance about the 1.4...the engines are indentical...more so than trying to identify a 16v/williams and everyone gets away with swapping those.

You'll get a 1.4 from just about any scrappy...between 40 and 60quid max to get it (+1.4 ECU). As for fitting, you could do it yourself with a mate/haynes or pay a garage...probs be a max of 300quid to swap them...direct replacement so no extra parts needed.

Taking the IK off will make it faster as its not sucking in hot air with the original airbox on. As for fuelling, it's carb so either a mate/mobile tuner/garage will be able to sort this very quickly/cheaply.
