So my exhaust starts blowing last week, and yesterday it really started blowing badly.
Took it to renault to look at, and within 20 seconds of it being on the ramps i got a verdict -
"Nah thats shot mate, you need a new exhaust. Will cost you £306"
Took it to a renault specialist, and got a second opinion -
"Nah thats shot mate, you need a new exhaust. Will cost you £306"
I then took it to a favourite local garage of mine where some actual mechanics work, not just lame half assed fitters. Chap there said bring it in tomorrow at 8am and ill sort it for you, so he squeezed me in and i took it down this morning. In summary its cost me £17 for it to be properly welded with plating that in his opinion will outlast my exhaust in any case.
What seems to have happened is that the exhaust bracket at the rear before the backbox has caused the exhaust to corrode and eventually cave in the actual pipe itself.
Resolution was for a plate to be welded over the top of the holes and around the pipe itself, and it now sounds better than it has for the last 2 months lol.
Moral of the story, always goto a reputable garage who don't mind getting their hands dirty. As renault would have gladly taken £300 off of me.
Anybody else had this problem? The rest of the exhaust was fine but this back bracket had somehow rotted the metal in some sort of reaction i guess.
Gives me some ease from the horrible headache inducing drone it was making, and gives me a chance to save some cashola towards a SS system.
