work for BMW
Hey!
So after not owning a car for around 4 months, I decided to scratch the itch and temporarily cure my car addiction and purchased my 11[SUP]th[/SUP] car.
I knew I wanted something cheap and economical with low insurance, as I will be using it purely as a run around car so I had some options.
I was umming and ahhing about which car to get, I was pretty set on getting another 1.2 Clio, then I started thinking about Corsa Sxi , Vw Polo. I wanted to spend about £1500-£2000.
Then out of nowhere I thought about going really really cheap and spending less then £1k.
I was talking to my housemate about it, we both had a Peugeot 106 as a first car and we reminisced about how amazing they were and so simple!
He told me about his love for Quiksilvers and to be honest my first thought was CHAV!
However I went online and there was a 106 Quiksilver only 2 miles away, completely standard and didn’t look too bad so my housemate convinced me to go take a look J
We organized a meet in the car park onto of Iceland where this guy works and when I saw it I fell in love!
· Completely standard
· Recent head gasket and cambelt change
· 101k miles
· Power steering, electric windows, central locking, sunroof!
· Everything works
Unfortunately no service history but brand new MOT and 4 months tax so cant complain. Struck a deal on £600 which I thought was a bargain for such a tidy little car.
I drove to Bournemouth and back over the weekend, about 130 miles each way and it only used about half a tank total, loving the MPG J
I don’t know that much about the mechanics of cars but its something I really want to learn more about, I figured what better way to learn then on a simple Peugeot 106. Got hold of some Haynes manuals and have a decent tool kit so I’m going to spend my Easter holidays just generally tinkering with it in my drive and taking things apart, putting them back together and getting an idea of how cars work. I literally can’t wait to start playing with it.
is this the best way to learn? i don't want to do anything i cant reverse!
My plans for It are to remain as standard as possible. In my opinion the Quiksilver as standard is a nice looking car, but as soon as you start with exterior mods then it instantly becomes a chav mobile.
I’m thinking
· Complete clean, mainly interior
· Go to breakers for little bits such as sunroof handle, center cap etc.
· Refurb the alloys myself in standard silver to get rid of the curbing.
· Spraying the bumper trims to black.
· Get a radio!
· Maybe a cheap Megane front splitter
I am excited to start my little project, feels as though I have learnt a lot from my previous cars but I think this will teach me so much more.
Some quick pictures of the previous cars iv owned in the last year and a half:
182 Cup
Clio 1.2 Rep
Vw Polo
Clio 1.2 TCE SX
And my current car, the 106 Quiksilver.
