70-300 will be reet laura, its the user ;)

i had a play with jams' 70-300 last weekend, and after you got going with it, pretty sharp good quality lens....easily capable of good shots...

mine is the right focal length just seems to not focus right :S

i just cant get shart s***s no matter what i try, it was a fairly cheap lens tho so dunno?

Didn't know you could do that James mate, nice links thanks.

Sorry Laura, you know I would, but all lenses are going to Brizzle for this 21st as said I'd get some shots.

I need a fish eye.

£250 deposit.. going to be a problem lol

plus i just wanted it for tomorow :)
good links tho, maybe good for future

I can't see things improving with a different lens, to be honest, especially this time of year when it's nice and light, if you're panning etc it won't get anywhere near f5.6 anyway, 90% of my shots are up around f16.

Best to check your settings, make sure it is in continuous autofocus mode and make sure you have an appropriate focal point selected. Try a basic panning shot of a car passing at 1/320, it won't look very dynamic but should tell you if everything is working ok.

This is a 1/320 shot with the 70-300 f5.6, car passing at roughly 60mph, to give you an idea of what you should end up with...

Somebody with a Canon can explain properly, but Shutter Priority on the main dial ('Tv' on a Canon iirc), and then scroll until it says 320.

I'd concentrate on settings rather than finding a new lens, a new lens will make no difference if you're not set up correctly.

I'm going tomorrow, if I spot you I'll come over and show you what you need to be looking at.

thanks

i did spend ages reading, even got a couple of books but it boggled my mind and i soon forgot what id learnt

Just need a bit more practice, Laura. Nothing wrong with those.

Trouble is, there are some fantastic photographers on here so it makes it look so easy when it's really not!

its all about practise really and trying out different techniques. i find it easier not to look at the car as a whole when panning as then it is easy for it to move about the frame causing camera shake on the car. i usually follow something like the wing mirror or door number making sure that says in the same place throughout the capture.

both images were shot using sub £150 lenses, play it safe to start with

this was shot at iso:200, shutter speed: 1/180, f9.5

from there you can experiment with different apperture and shutter speed settings to get different results. obvioulsy the slower the shutter the harder it is to keep the image sharp

this was from the Walters hayes trophy race in November, the weather was crap and the lighting was really difficult. By 3pm it was dark.

cant wait to try out my canon 70-200 f4 L and x1.4 convertor in a couple of weeks time at the Japanese tuning show at silverstone as they have track action ranging from drifting, racing and time attack all day :)

also with a bit of tweaking it can make a massive difference (laura one thing you might want to do before tomorrow is give your lens and camera a quick clean as i noticed a lot of dust marks in the sky when editing the pic)

the guide is great, ive printed it off,

the dust is on the sensor, its been like that from new, i took it back and they wouldnt do anything about it so i took it to jessops and they dont do sensor cleaning
