Network Monitoring Software

At work we need some Network Monitoring Software.

This software needs to be able to monitor 800+ machines.
Being able to see what is on the screen is a bonus.
It needs to be able to tell us where the most activity on the network is happening.

Anything else is bonus really.

BUT it has to be free! We have searched around, but the free ones all seem to be trial versions. I know its a long shot, but do any of you lot work in an IT environment and use this type of software? If so, which one?

Doubt you'll find anything free that can do all that tbh. There was a linux program that would do the traffic monitoring iirc, but I can't remember what its called for the life of me.
