Networking/Virtualisation Geeks (FAO)

Out of interest, for those of you that work in networking or virtualisation, when you first stepped into your first job doing specifically networking or virtualisation what prior qualifications or experience did you have?

Just interested. Ive got 1 year left of uni and feel very "lacking".

Ill have a degree in network management, be ccna certified, perhaps 1 unit of ccnp, no experience in anything else like linux or programming.

For virtualisation, there's only one thing worth doing and it's a must, vmware vcp.

I'm starting to get into networking now as it comes up more and more in my job, we are going converged with our new solution, 2million quid of kit, start the planning tomorrow for when the kit arrives, big old project.

VCP as DK stated (king of exams)

Vsphere 5 has just been released, so you might still want to do 4.0/4.1 which was the current version until 3 days ago.

I think at the moment you can't really go wrong with networking and virtualisation accreditations, it's what everybody wants.

Which also leads onto converged infrastructure, so the cisco nexus 5000 series.
