New camera already ..

Ha the opportunity to flog my 500D and 17-85 IS USM lens for £560 and buy a MiNT 50D and 17-85 IS USM kit for £580 £20 upgrade ftw!

Havnt a clue what the 50 can do but wasn't stupid enough to turn it down ..

Anyone got any tips as to a decent walkaround lens to use with it ..

And is a battery grip worth while?

Get a 70-200 of some sort. The Non IS F4's are pretty cheap. They make great portrait lenses imho.

or a UWA, Sigma 10-20.

Both lenses would fit nicely with the 17-85.

Primes > Zooms T-B-H. Altho saying that im a 50 - 50 split between the two at the moment. Cant wait for new year, 35L + 135L time.

The 10-20 is about £280 used, the 70-200 f4L about £400, not big money in the grand scheme of things.

For £20 mate it was a no brainer! Could of carried on or snapped this up.

Everyone says the XXD series controls stay same right up to XD series so learn once and never again.

But I figured I was offered £400 for my camera and £160 for my lens .. Then offered a 50D with same lens for £580 I bit his arm off! He is a wedding tog and was a spare body. He upgraded it to a 5DII so I was snapping it up lol
