New camera help

  A well built VW
A friend is looking to purchase a decent camera, they are into wildlife and have suggested they want something with 26x optical zoom (asking too much ?) he is looking to spend around £500 ish but doesn't do internet and wanted me to search for a good buy but tbh im lost without knowing what type of camera will do the job for his needs

Any help (links apreciated)

Thanks

With that sort of cash, go DSLR.

Nikon or Canon. Pop into a shop and play. Then buy the one that feels best in his hands, likes the menus etc.

Its not a bad camera but I'd rather spend a bit more and get the 450D with the 18-55 IS lens.

If they can get it from Comet, it also comes with cash back at the moment, which would make it £390.

If they want all the modern gimmicks like Video they can get a 500D + 18-55 IS for £500 with cash back.

They'll then need a long lens. I'd recommend on a budget these:

Canon 55-250 IS, new lens with up to date Image Stabiliser. (Often sold as a twin lens package with the 18-55 IS)

Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG MACRO, great bang for the buck, no IS but it is slightly longer for wildlife.

They'll also need to factor in a bag, memory and most likely a half decent tripod or mono pod depending on what type of wildlife they are shooting.

See this thread for where to buy, especially Kerso.
