New car soon if i can sort my insurance!!!

  clio 1.2 extreme :(
Been driving for about 6 months now and im saving hopefullt to get a c2 gt at the end of this year!

The problem is i started on my dads insurance so he owns the car but im the main driver etc etc. But by doing this i dont get any no claims :(

Im eighteen in November and hoping to get enough cash together with my clio and buy one!!

Ive done quotes online and the best i can get is about 2000 on my own name TPFT with the GT, is that really that bad considering i have no no claims???

To stay with my insurance company im wit now they want 2100 which isnt that bad but i wolud have been driving two years and got no no claims entitlement?/

What do you think is the best thing to do??

did you know u can be a named drive with direct line and still build up your no claims? so maybe you could get your dad as a main driver and you as a named driver but built you a year or two no claims , then go at it on your own, worth looking into mate.

Get it in your name & add your mum as a named driver, that ought to bring it down a bit.

Thats a good price at 18 with 0ncb, a very good price imo.

Ive come to realise that being a poor student im best to wait until i can insure a sport or something for under £1000

Isn't that in some way illegal? Or is it just when he owns the car and he's the main driver, when infact you are?

Pritty sure the named driver policy gaining NCB, will only be recognised with direct line themselves. Have to take into account direct line don't allow modifications (atleast for under 25 y/o), so if you have plans to change afew bits.

It's just young driver insurance, cheapest qoute I've got on a 1.2 is £1895 TPFT, and £2100 TPFT on a 65 DCi.

I am not 100% sure in regards to only keeping the NCB with direct line, I had been told you could go else were with the no claims...but dont quote me cause i am not 100% at all

yeah its called fronting and unfortunately what your doing is illegal there was a recent top gear episode about it and they even had to say afterwards that what they recommended was illegal lol

direct line and few other do named drivers no claims but you then have to take out a policy with said company in your own name to claim it.

Its actually not illegal my dad has two policies with them, 2 cars in his name but me as the main driver on one of them, it cant be ilegal because everyone i know do it because they are like the only insurance company i colud find lol

Just because everyone does it doesnt mean its not illegal.

As has been stated, its illegal, and called fronting.

Your the main driver, so it should be in your name.

Insurance fronting is illegal.

You effectively have no insurance, if you are they main driver you must be the policy holder.

The log book is in my dad's name, but I am the main driver and the policy holder, the direct debit comes out of my account

If he is down as the main driver with the company it isn't illegal

I was thinking the same. PMSL at the CS police. If hes told the insurance hes the main driver of the vehicle then how can it be illegal. I persume his dad owns it as he bought it. As long as the insurers know hes (the OP) driving it all the time (so the main user and not just taking it to the shops etc etc) there isn't an issue.

EDIT: Just read - doesnt' specifically say you have told the insurance your the main user. Naughty naughty!
