New Car Tax Question

I've just recently bought a new car, and need to tax it, but all the post offices are closed now.

I have the Tear off V5C part and Insurance certificate, is there anyway I can get the tax so I can drive it tonight?

If I apply online, which I don't think I can with just the tear off bit, would I have to wait until the Tax Disc comes through the post?

If you apply online it'll get sent to the current owners address but will be taxed at least.

If you know the previous owner i'd do this.

I think if you pay for the tax then you're ok to drive, it'll come up on police scanners, I did it for an evening by accident last year.

Also just realised. Its a bank holiday. They won't be open for 4 days

I rung the police (not on 999 lol) and asked, they said it would depend on who stopped me as to how they'd look at it.

They cant just say that, they should tell you not to drive it, not you might get away with it.

If you get an ar*ehole copper he can do you for not displaying a valid tax disc even if it's taxed.

It's usually down to ANPR as to whether you get pulled over, not sure how quickly the database gets
updated.

Yea I know thats the risk I guess. Its the ANPR cameras Im worried about.
Coz Ideally I'd just apply online, but I don't know who the previous owner was as its from a dealer, then I run the risk also of not having it displayed.

i payed for my tax online. and just put a note in the window saying "tax is in the post" i was fine. but why buy a car with no tax anyway.

I always print out the confirmation when I buy it online, scribble out my personal details, and lob that on the dash. Although I think it says somewhere they have to give you 5 days grace or something to allow for them being in the post.

However that's kind of irrelevant to you as ordering it online will send it off somewhere else! ... Be good and wait til Saturday I guess? >_<
